So I was this skinny girl from forever who had a tough time gaining the kilos. Hogging on to the unlimited junk and making my fitness conscious friends jealous used to be my fav thing to do.. Marriage and the changed lifestyle did sneak in 1-2 kilos here and there but I was all smiles about it as that’s what I have been trying all this while.
When we decided to go the Family way I knew my body will change but didn’t know the changes will be soo huge that I ll start having Identity crisis.. I gained a whopping 25 Kgs in my pregnancy and all this gain was too sudden as it started only in 5th month. So 4 months and 25 kgs. Results – My body got stretched left right centre, back aches, feet aches and an image in the mirror which didn’t looked anything like me..
I know I know that’s a beautiful motherhood phase and it was all worth it but can u actually control your thoughts in that post partum pressure. And boy lets not even start with the societal expectations and comments. Every single person I met had the same laugh and same thing to say – omg how much weight have you gained. Really, what do you expect from a recovering ailing body who just went for a huge surgery, yea mine was C-Section and I was all the more disappointed from it but trust me all those myths that you cannot recover from c sec and you can have back ache throughout your life ahead is plain bullshit. This whole experience calls out for another blogpost which I will be doing soon about the experience of c-sec, what to expect and some very useful tips for the new mommies to be. Coming back to the humongous weight I gained, My own mom ended up telling me that all those cupboards full of pre preg time clothes will be useless now as I might lose some but it is impossible to come back to the pre-preg weight.. Though I know all these people and my mom dint mean it the other way but my already confused mind couldn’t help but take at least a tiny-miny offence.
But all I could do at that time was to be patient, nurse my tiny bundle of joy and be determined about working it off. Of course the blessings were just beside me all this while in form of my very supportive hubby who knew what I felt and kept assuring me every now & then that it is all going to be ok. Fast forward 7 months to a healed and recovered body and beautifully growing hooman with us, i started off with my fitness journey. It wasn’t hard as the determination was strong. It wasn’t impossible as little results started to show within a week. And it was there to stay as I was working those kilos off through rigorous workouts, eating right and calming yoga sessions.
For the workouts we formulated a combination for ourselves of Cardio, Core and Weight Training. Each day had different exercises dedicated to different areas of Core such as Upper Abs, Sides and Lower Abs in order to not put the strain on same set of muscles every day.
Weight training had Biceps & Shoulders, Chest & Triceps and Thighs and Calves. Rest day in between and repeating the same schedule of 3 days after wards. And all of this was our Home Workout (with my 2kgs dumbbells only, all the fancy home gym stuff came later) cos the new mommy couldn’t go to gym when there was no one at home to take care of the baby.
The calming Yoga sessions in the morning and the Protein rich diet contributed equally and Yes I lost all those kilos, rediscovered my old self, could fit into all my clothes again and couldn’t be happier about it.
I am eager to share the workouts in specific and detailed posts. Planning to do a Fitness series showcasing all the exercises for different target areas. Shared this journey with you all today because I am again looking for some motivation for being a better version of myself and what could be better than reminiscing the sense of achievement and accomplishment these results gave to me.
Wishing to work off those unwanted bulges once more.. Join in if you want it too :D
